Done.

Wow. What a crazy thing that was.... those of you who are writers, ummmm... revising the whole manuscript is amazing. I intend to blog about it next week on the Give a Girl a Pen site. Basically, the thing I realized, was that I was cutting (or re-writing) the stuff I KNEW was bad, and doing the same for the stuff I was most in love with. What is that Virginia Wolf quote? Killing our little darlings? I have a new found appreciation for the delte button.

Good Gracious Publishing Gods. That was HARD.

But now it is over. I am back. I missed this purple blog. I will post a recipe tomorrow and will hopefully hit send on this new, trimmed down, action packed horror novel on Monday. Or Tuesday, or whenever my wonderful friends who are all taking time to read the revisions get back to me.

  4. Oh, I can totally empathize. I just revised two of my books. It's really tough work. Good job getting through it!

  5. Oooo, I'm intrigued by your title. I'm also glad to hear you survived and pulled this off in a week. (note to self: It can be done).
I hope you are able to relax and enjoy the weekend--you certainly earned it.

  6. Good job! Did it really only take you a week? It took me a month. I usually don't read the Give a Girl a Pen blog, but I'll tune in for you. :-)

  7. Hi All! Yay! Here we are! I should probably clarify ;) I took one week to read the two books I was asked to read. I made notes while I gave the MS to an English Prof at the university where I work along with the agents crit.

That was week one. I was blogging through that :)

THEN when I knew what I had to do. I had to hunker down. SO... two weeks. But I was lucky. It was story related, not writing related. I think that is an easier revision. She said "Sentence by sentence your writing is strong..." but she wanted more "teasing of the reader... and a lot less exposition, more dialogue. So I had to change many scenes to dialogue.

And I ignored every other thing around me. AND I can't remember when I washed my hair!

  8. Well done on hunkering down and not washing your hair! It sounds as if it was worth it. ;0

  10. Having read your clarification, I'll add a stunning thing I found online. Another blogger said her younger sister ONLY reads dialogue. She skips over everything else! In this fast-paced world, I guess exposition must come in tiny increments.
