We have winners!

Shining Path trophy Pictures, Images and Photos
WOW. Anyone who reads the entries will know I am not lying when I say that every single one was well written. We had a really hard time judging these. What happened was very interesting. We found ourselves asking some familiar questions to each other: What grabbed us right away? What voice resounded the most? What characters did we connect with? Do these questions sound familiar to any of you writers in the query submission process right now? YIKES! It was like we crossed over to the "dark side" (Please Note LOVELY, BRILLIANT agent who I have yet to hear from that I do not mean YOU.)

I really think all of my writing friends should run one of these, just to see the pond from the other side. It is CRAZY! SO, we slept on it. And I couldn't sleep, so I was up at two re-reading them all one more time. It came down to this. What story did we want more of? In the end, there were two. A tie. No joke. Here we go:

THE WINNERS ARE: Arianna + Michelle. (Please email me your Addresses so you can get your prize!)

Arianna: Ummmm, write. Write! Write her story. It is the Scottish version of "How Stella Got her Groove back!" We found ourselves wanting to go to Scotland with her and see what happens! AND, please start to blog.

Michelle: Romance? I am NOT a fan. I write horror. Mean nasty people doing mean nasty things. BUT, girl.... We would read that book. WELL DONE!

I have comments, positive ones, for every. single. entry. If you want to hear my gushing (I already emailed a few of you!) Email me and I can tell you what I LOVED!

(BTW: Lisa & Laura, we need to have a slasher award. Maybe I'll create one in photoshop and give it to you!) And Edda made us cry. Tricia's attic search for treasures past was amazing. Ummm... I can't say enough. Graveside roses and replanting memories, post apocalyptic wonderment and ancient gods. This was really incredible. It made us think perhaps we should create a blogzine for shorts. Hmmmmm.

Thank you thank you thank you for the shout outs and the entries. This was great fun.

AND if there are any of you that are not great at losing (Like me!) Feel free to read this post that tells the story of how my competitive nature ruined a contest. Really. I suck.

I am going to do this again. Monthly maybe. And next time perhaps not in the midst of my bloggy friends unplug week. (Sorry Unplugged Guys!)

XO

Suzanne and Mandy

  13. Thanks for holding this contest, Suzanne. It was a challenge to come up with a story and write it in a day, but I really enjoyed the process and learned something from it, which is what I want out of life and writing. Congratulations to the winners (and everyone who participated). I enjoyed reading all the stories so much--such a wealth of imagination and skill.

  14. Opps - guess I forgot to post my email ;) steenah@telus.net - email away! I'm working on my query for a spiritual thriller - the romance story gave me a breather to create - but I'm struggling - so an email would be another great breather ;) (hint hint - I need a distraction)

Thanks for posting this contest - it was great! Can't wait for the next one!
